Where do Petoskey Stones Come From?

Petoskey Stones were created from the sediment that built up in 350-million-year-old coral called Hexagonaria. Over all these years, the sediment and the coral have fossilized into a form of calcite with a hardness of 4 to 5.

The stones in these collections were found by Wayne Seger a stone hunter and enthusiast who walks the shores of Lake Michigan, swim out with his snorkel gear in the great lakes and travels the backroads in search of the perfect stones. Wayne has cut most of the stones to expose the internal design of the hexagonal pattern and remove shale. He then tumbles the stones in heavy & medium grit to smooth out the edges and expose the designs more clearly. A finishing process that illuminates the pattern is done with an acid-based solution, which essentially melts the surface. All rocks are 100% pure, with no oils or coatings on them.

Rubbing the stones, like a worry stone, will increase their clarity and vibrancy through the light polishing of your hands and natural skin oils.

Each set contains a number of medium to smaller Petoskey stones
